Designed for soccer players aged 8 to 13 years old, this program provides a fun approach to improving speed and strength that combines a wide variety of activities and skills that are specific to soccer performance while keeping the process fun and engaging.
The program progresses though a strength building phase, then focuses on proper running mechanics and finally through phase of application of speed and agility. Participants in the program will have their speed and strength evaluated and will gain insight into techniques that can improve running mechanics and efficient body movement.
Why is Soccer Speed and Strength Important?
- The majority of game situations involve 5m to 15m bursts of speed.
- Fast players beat their opponent to the ball, have more time for making the right decision and out run their opponent into open space or scoring position.
- Most soccer moves and turns with the ball require speed and strength to execute successfully in game situations.
All instructors are accomplished athletes with coaching certification and are experienced in coaching young athletes in running and soccer.
What is the track record of the program?
This program has been running for 4 years and has been proven to improve speed performance. Since athletes are tested at beginning and end of the program, the results are well documented. Typically, a 30m sprint is improved an average of two steps over the duration of the program. As well, the stepwise progression of strengthening over a long period before maximum speed work is performed, muscle injuries that are common to other training programs are avoided.
